STUDENT PROFILE

The Master in Management Control Full Time is aimed at undergraduate students in their final years of career or recent graduates of related fields or other areas, looking to increase their knowledge in the area, later to perform successfully in the work of teaching and research university, independent consulting, consulting, research companies and institutions and control work, planning and management in public and private companies.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

  • Management control models: The main objective of the course is to introduce students to the fundamental topics of management control. It is expected that at the end of the course students will be able to analyse management control systems and thus be able to take the relevant decisions regarding organizational development taking into account the different control mechanisms (planning, measurement and performance evaluation, incentive scheme and organizational culture).
  • Information economy and uncertainty: The course covers management control and some models used in this area. Within the context of the course there will be insights into moral hazard, adverse selection and signaling processes. The learned models will attend as a basis for applications in economics and finance of the enterprise.
  • Strategic Planning: This strategic planning course focuses on some of the process of strategic planning that can be used to overcome and avoid barriers in the control area. You will learn how to develop a competitive strategy for companies and understand the aspects that involve the concept of strategy, it give you a solid foundation on which to build the organizations strategic plans, problems of profitability and an analysis of the environment and capabilities the companies.
  • Decision Analysis: This course aims students to conceptually understand the role played by scientific methods in the decision-making process of a company. The course covers a wide range of techniques to support the process of decision analysis. The emphasis hereby is on the study of a number of industry cases and finally and most importantly, it teaches you how to model and analyse decision problems by using spreadsheets of Excel, information that simulate different scenarios.
  • Organizational Behavior: The main objective of the course is to introduce students to the fundamental topics of organizational behavior. It teaches you how impact the behavior of individuals, groups and structures in the organization. The course requires the active participation of students in terms of reading the texts to be administered by the teacher, for further discussion of these in class.
  • Business Processes: The current dynamics of organizations, markets, and economic systems imposes new challenges around the financial control in companies. This course analyses perspectives and techniques of the traditional tools of financial control, its focus is on managerial decision making and the use statistical concepts, risk measurement and impact analysis.
  • Financial Control: La dinámica actual de las organizaciones, los mercados, y los sistemas económicos impone nuevos desafíos al momento de efectuar el control financiero de una entidad. En este curso se expondrán los elementos que conforman las herramientas de control financiero tradicionales, junto con detallar algunas técnicas que permiten profundizar el análisis, incorporando además conceptos estadísticos, mediciones de riesgo, análisis de impacto.
  • Management tools Control: The course will discuss the concepts, methods and analytical tools that allow people that support planning and control inside the company to generate valid instruments for such work. The course will help students to develop their skills to create information from data, develop and adapt systems to help executives and employees in the decision-making process.
  • Electives: Students must choose elective courses totaling at least 40 credits. These will be decided in conjunction with the Academic Committee of the program, according to student interests, aggregate demand and market trends. An elective course for the Graduate School requires handed down the minimum participation of 12 students enrolled. Electives offered in the program to date:

  • Graduation project: The student has to design a comprehensive control system for an organization or specific activity. The project can focus on management control of a public entity (hospital, school, university, office, municipality, etc.) or a private company, as well as in control applications projects or programs of investment and development of public and private institutions.The project must include at least the following aspects:
    • The proposed model control.
    • Precise identification of the different parts of the control system and their interactions. The underlying structure of the system process.
    • The Information that demands the control system model proposed.

    The total duration of the program is estimated and may vary depending on holidays, calendars, decree changes, and the extent of the thesis or equivalent training activity.

APPLICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree of licenciado or equivalent professional title, granted in Chile or abroad.

POSTULATION PROCESS

  • Study of the applicant’s background by the Academic Council.
  • Personal interview.
  • Decision phase which may include admission, conditional admission or non-acceptance of the program.

BACKGROUND OF APPLICATION

  • Admission request. Download format here.
  • Certificate of title or original university degree and legalized photocopy. Foreign applicants must legalize original title at the Chilean Consulate in their country of residence and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Santiago, once residing in Chile.
  • Original Notes Certificate. Foreign applicants must also submit a legalized copy.
  • Those who request the homologation of courses, must present the detail of the undergraduate study program of the courses presented for homologation (academic pensum). Each case will be evaluated by the Academic Committee of the program.
  • Photocopy of ID, or passport in the case of foreign applicants, on both sides.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Two letters of recommendation. They are made through an electronic format, so contact details of two work or academic references (name, position or activity, company, address, telephone, e-mail) are requested, who provide the information via the web.
  • Foreign applicants must submit compulsory health insurance.
  • Application fee: $ 50,000 or $ 100, non-refundable amount. The checks or vale vista must be extended to the name of Universidad de Chile.
